Cap1 CLI vs. Interest Rate Decrease

I have 2 Cap1 cards. Visa Platinum and M.C. Platinum.

I called the acct. specialist # and spoke to a Cristen. Had a great conversation with her. We even got off the subject and talked of Christmas shopping for her 2 year old. :smileyhappy:

I asked her if I'm eligible for any cc offerings on my cc. She looked at both, and came back with: "since you just got a cli 3 weeks ago, it's a little premature asking for another one. Call back on Nov.21"

And in a muted voice "I'd recommend you requesting an interest rate decrease instead of a cli" (hint, hint; wink, wink)

I think I'll take her advice.

Re: Cap1 CLI vs. Interest Rate Decrease

I wish HSBC was that reasonable...

The rep I called was of NO help.

SO not worth the annual fee, especially if they aren't going to budge at all.

Re: Cap1 CLI vs. Interest Rate Decrease

I applied for and received an HSBC card last year at this time. As soon as I received it, I didn't activate it. It just sat in an envelope for a month.

I got the first statement about a month after I got it. It had the $45 or whatever annual fee on it. I was livid! I got billed and had not even activated it!

I called them up immediately, and told them to IMMEDIATELY cancel this card, as I'm being billed for services not rendered.

The rep said "what can I do to salvage the account?" I told him the ONLY way would be to remove that charge, AND give me a cli. He did on both. And kept me as a customer.

I kind of wish I did not even have that card now.  Thinking of cancelling after the first of the year. It's my lowest credit limit card.

Re: Cap1 CLI vs. Interest Rate Decrease

HSBC is on your chopping block as well.

HSBC needs to make some changes if they want to keep customers-

BTW- APR reduction later in the month for me too at C1.

Re: Cap1 CLI vs. Interest Rate Decrease

Yes Timothy, it sure is. If it weren't for the fact that I have only 2 MC cc's(HSBC being one of them), I'd have cancelled long ago. The CL is only $450. Keeping the util to <10% is not even enough for a tank of gas for me.

I've heard somewhere they review every 6 mos. for cli's. I'm about due for one. In fact, I think I'll call them today and ask for one. I'll keep you posted.

Re: Cap1 CLI vs. Interest Rate Decrease

Timothy I totally agree.

They need to do a total rehaul like Cap 1 have been doing. I have had my HSBC Plat Visa for 2 years. My scores are totally different now than they were when I first opened this card. I saw on one of these threads that they do not grow with you and I would have to agree with that. The only reason I have not closed that card is because I am scared that it would somehow mess with my aging and it doesn't have an AF. They stink!! I don't even consider that card as one of my CC's.

Re: Cap1 CLI vs. Interest Rate Decrease

At least you have 1 with no AF.

I have one 3 years old- Started with a $300 CL and it is at $400 with an AF.

Boy just typing that out makes me want to close it.

Re: Cap1 CLI vs. Interest Rate Decrease

Timothy

I think we should start a picket thread on here. Hopefully, someone from HSBC will read it and say something to someone about how unhappy their customers are (I think that is what happened at Cap 1), I know I'm grasping but hey...

I know the feeling as I was type my reply I wondered the same reason. I'm thinking they will do what they did with the OP if we tried to close the account. Hmmmm there's an idea, everyone should call to cancel their cards..ok grasping agian...

Re: Cap1 CLI vs. Interest Rate Decrease

I think we high-jacked the thread...

HSBC is not one of my favs (both a Gold MC and a BB MC) - Cap1 one is actually treating me nicer (and at a lower AF) and I can grow with them.

My man gripe with HSBC and BB MC is that they report on the last business day of the month (not the statement date) so controlling util is harder.  Both my Citi and Cap1 report statement date (Citi I  did in this month because I need to revolve until a check comes in from a settlement).

Re: Cap1 CLI vs. Interest Rate Decrease

We really did jack the thread...but that's okay because it's always good to rant about how much HSBC is terrible.

Scarlet, I'm glad I'm not alone with the annual fee things.  But yours is $45? Mine's only $29, thank god.  Much more reasonable.  But I think I'll take your route and just wait for a year to see what type of service I get.  If at the end of the year I don't get at least a $2,000 line out of them, I'm closing it.  Oh and I'd better get world class customer service and a half-way decent apr.
