A couple of months ago I used the chat function to ask if I was eligible for any card upgrades. I've had my Cash Rewards for Newcomers card for about 14 months now, so I was hoping at that 12 month point I would be eligible for something. I was not.
But as I posted yesterday, I was just approved for a small CLI on that card, which I received through the luv button on the website. So today I decided to check and see if I was getting any preapproval offers, in hopes that I could get a PC. Much to my dismay, I wasn't preapproved for anything, despite always paying on time and in full.
I grumbled for a few minutes and decided to try the chat function again. The chat CSR I spoke with asked for my account info and took a look. Instead of telling me there were no offers, he said, "Please hold one moment while I transfer you to an account specialist." I wasn't sure if that was good or bad, but when the specialist took over my chat session, he informed me that there was an offer on my account to upgrade to the Quicksilver Rewards card for excellent credit - so I accepted! That was nice to hear since by their definition, I don't fully fit the "excellent credit" criteria (I haven't had a card for 3 years or more).
I keep the same account number and history, which I'm pleased about since it's the first card I ever opened. They will send me the actual Quicksilver card, though.
I'm pretty thrilled that I was able to get a small CLI as well as a PC without having to bother the EO, and I wanted to let others know to try the chat function for a PC if you recently got a CLI with Cap1!
Congrats on the upgrade
Thanks! I think I am most excited about ditching my thin, ragged Newcomer's card that has an off-center Mastercard logo. I swear, every time I switch my card design, they mess something up on the production of the card!
I just tried their chat function and all I got from the rep was a stock response telling me to check to see if there's any offer waiting for me and there wasn't.
You think I should contact their EO for a PC to QuickSilver? I too hate my newcomer's "platinum MC"!
This happened to me too OP. I had a platinum MC and got PC'ed to a Quicksilver. I know I dont have excellent credit but they approved me anyways. I was at 500 and the LUV button bumped me to 1000 afterwards. My account number and APR are the same however. The Quicksilver should also be a Visa but mines is still a MC. I will likely recon with the EO regarding the CLI because the minimum credit line for a Quicksilver is 3k, and I'm stuck at 1k.
Anybody know if I should wait 6 months or do it ASAP? got the card and activated a couple weeks ago...and my cap1 account online still says platinum...UGHHH!
i figured so...still dont know why they would approve me but not give me the minimum credit line for that card..

If your account number is staying the same then it will always either be Visa or MC. It can't be any other way because Visa account numbers always start with a 4 and MCs always start with a 5.

I have a regular non-reward Cap1 with 3500 limit. Opened in 2006? Is it possible to get it changed to Venture? Venture Sig? If not I will try for Quicksilver.
Will try chat later just wanted some feedback.
Don't bother with chat. Just write an email to EO. After getting denied via chat yesterday, I decided to write them an email and I did this morning. A few hrs later I received a call from the same nice lady who helped me get a CLI in July and she told me I could choose from Quicksilver, Venture or VentureOne. I chose QS w/ no AF since I already have a Chase United and I'm accumulating miles through that card.
