Cap1 Plat to Venture 2 PC Success!

[ Edited ]

Just wanted to share another Cap1 PC success story.

I just got off the phone with "senior account specialist" Bob. I called through the 9399 number listed on the backdoor numbers sticky.

He started by giving me the weather report at home. This seems to be the standard icebreaker. I then simply said I want to PC from the Platinum card to the Venture Rewards card. He asked me to specify which one. He called them the "Venture 1" and "Venture 2." I told him I wanted the Venture 2. He took a few seconds to check on my upgrage eligibility, then came back and said I was eligible to upgrade (Cap1 website said I wasn't). He read the disclosure, which includes agreeing to no account upgrades for 6 months, I agreed, and that was it. Card will arrive in 7-10 days. Easy peasy.

Hope this helps someone else considering the swap. For comparison, my account is 20 months old, CL is $5K, and in good standing with 11% util.

Amazing!

Times are a'changin.  I can't ever recall reading of successful upgrade and product changes with CapOne.  This is certainly a good sign.

Did you have the regular platinum (Either platinum or plat classic) or did you have plat prestige? Even more impressive if you had one of the "Average" platinums, since that is from average to excellent.

Well I just saw your CL was 5k so I assume it was a plat prestige.

Congrats. They gave me platinum to cash rewards with no AF a month ago.

Did they let you keep the platinums AF or did they bump you up to $59 for the venture?

Congrats. I have the Venture One gold card myself and I love how the miles post right away. You don't have to wait for your statement to cut.

@jsulcool: I actually had the regular old platinum card. Started with a $2K limit, got autoCLI after I guess 12 months to $5K. Never even asked for it. Until I joined this board, I hadn't even considered the possibility of a product change. I have learned a lot in a short period of time! Unfortunately, I am stuck with the new AF.

Venture One = 1.25 miles per $1 spent.

Venture Rewards = 2 miles per $1 spent.

I would tend to think so. We'll find out in  six months . . .

friend who had average credit when he got cap one has seemed to top out at 3.5k limit but was offered pc recently.  The rewards are actually worse on pc card as he had the 5pt on gas/grocery card with af.  Asked for my advice.  Never heard from others if it seemed like cli would start again with pc.
