Capital One Platinum Ceiling

After having the Capital One Platinum card since 2007, I couldnt understand why they made no offers for to upgrade to a rewards card. I called them today and spoke to an account specialist. She was very kind and straight forward. Since my card is considered a credit builder, I've taken it as far as I can and I will not receive additional CLI's, nor can I product change. She reviewed my account and suggested that I apply for a Venture card. My intial CL was $500 and now it's $4,500.

I have another Capital One "credit builder" that I opened last year with a $1250 CL, Amex Green (07/11 but backdated 07/91), & Citi Aadvantage Gold Visa Signature(07/11). I'm going to keep the 2007 Cap 1 card since it has aged but I want my final card before I relax in the Garden to be a rewards card. any suggestions?

Re: Capital One Platinum Ceiling

Nice 4,500 CL for CapOne on a rebuilder card.  Mine stucked at 1,500 with no CLI, no PC and they can't waive my AF per Account Specialist.  I just have to leave it open since I need the TL.

IMO, Capital One Venture would be a good choice.

Re: Capital One Platinum Ceiling

What type of rewards are you looking for? Capital one venture has a 1.25 percent reward rate and lots of flexibility but some other cards will return up to 2 percent on airline tickets or cash into aninvestment account.

Re: Capital One Platinum Ceiling

I say go for either the Chase Freedom or the BofA Cash Rewards. I love the way the Chase Freedom lets you get 5% cash back each quarter. Those catagories are really useful like right now it's gasoline. It caps at 1500 per quarter but that's $75 cash back every 3 months plus you still get 1% after you've reached the 1500 cap. BofA cash rewards are 1% everything 2% groceries and 3% gasoline. The 2 and 3% catagories are considered bonus and have a cap of 1500 each quarter but 1% for everything past that. Two really great cards. I have both. The APR is high but I PIF and it works out great.

Re: Capital One Platinum Ceiling

If you converted to Venture card you would have two cards accumulating miles the other being Citi AAadvantage. I would only have one of that type. I would look into the Captial One Cash rewards or Captial One Cash credit card  The second one slightly better than the first one.

Re: Capital One Platinum Ceiling

Since my card is considered a credit builder, they will not allow me to convert to a Venture card. They said that I have to apply for a new card.

I still think this is a YMMV.

I have seen folks say they were able to upgrade from their Plat "Builder Card" to Venture.

From reading, it looks like its a 5 to 6 year history that is needed,

Sometimes I think analysts just say whatever to get you off the phone. The only thing they know, is it says on their screen that your account is not eligible at the current time.

Re: Capital One Platinum Ceiling

yeah i mean really i think capital one COULD do whatever the heck they wanted, including convert any card to any card...its a matter of getting them to do it though...

at the same time i believe that these reps dont sit there on a computer taking phone calls all day and dealing with this kind of stuff constantly without knowing every little in, out and trick in how to get things done even if they dont let on they do, or say they cant because the computer screen doesnt say they can...

even if they "cant" themselves, they know who to send you to who can approve it...its just a matter of getting one who is nice/helpful/likes your voice/having a good day/etc....

Re: Capital One Platinum Ceiling

I called Capital One and the guy notified me that in some cases they have PC a credit builder card into Venture but It's not available for me yet. I decided that I no long want to apply for a Venture card. I'm going to occasionally use my Cap 1 card. My AMEX Green & Citi AAvantage Platinum World Master card will stay in my wallet. I cancelled my other Cap 1 card. It wasnt a year old and the CL was $750. No need to pay the AF if I'm not going to use it.
