Capital One and Annual Fee...Close or Stay Open?

Received notice in March that my July statement would include a $29 annual fee ($850 CL). I called the back door number requesting it to be waived. Answer... Not at this time and to call back when the statement date gets closer. E-mailed Cap One today requesting the fee to be waived. Reply...cannot do this at this time. Only way to have this waived is to close the account. Just tried to call the back door number with my request but they are closed at this time. Will call back in the morning. (I have had this fee waived in the past) I've had the card for years with a low CL. My other Cap One card has no fee and $4100 CL. If denied I'll ask to combine the account with the higher one. If this is denied should I just forget it and close the account? I have $58K in overall credit. Thank you.

RozBuds, do you actually use that account?

If this is an account that you only use once in a while just to keep it active, I say dump it if they won't combine CL into the other card.

Re: Capital One and Annual Fee...Close or Stay Open?

I called and the specialist said to call back on the 31st after it posts and couldn't do anything at this time. However on my other account she said she could lower my interest from 15.99 to 10.9 for 6 months. I'll take it. I'll see what happens on the 31st. If it's waived yipee. If not I will take your advice and close. I don't use it very often. Last time was way over a year ago. I found out it was opened in 2004 so maybe that is still considered a young account. Anyway with the low CL it probably won't make that big of a difference with my FICO. Thank you for the replies.
