What were your balances or utils on both cards when you combined them?
Don't think this will help much, but I when I combined mine I had 3 all with 0 balances.
As far as waiting to combine, the only downside I can see is paying the extra interest on the $400. But then again, if your AF hits before you transfer, that may make up for it. Your utilization will stay the same so you don't have to worry about that aspect at all as far as I can tell.
I had a samll balance <100 on the older card I was combining too-
Capone didn't report the other account closed - and after 9 months it stopped being included in UTL scoring, so I disputed it closed. (if the 90 would have disappeared I would not have been bothered)
An extra $4k is UTL was great while it lasted.
Timothy,
That is one of the reasons I was afraid to combine because of problems like that. When you disputed it, did your scores decrease or increase?

No change as it was already not being included in UTL-
Use the BD-
Having them not update the old account was great- (until it quit counting in UTL by FICO) then I disputed it closed-
