It's a new month boys and girls. This thread is for you to tell your story about cards you've "put down". I'm not talking about an SD party. I'm talking about taking those cards out back and doing what needs to be done. Tired of low, toy limits? Tired of being charged an AF with no benefits/rewards/features? Outgrown your limits? Upgraded for a better card?
Let's here about the cards you've cancelled out right this month and the reasons why!
Not in this month, but a few days ago, I cancelled my Chase Amazon card. Amazon is great gateway into online shopping/deals online, and it's reliable for free 2-day shipping. However, as you become better at shopping online and deal hunting, you realize that Amazon is not so great.
Both my cap1 cards got axed today! Low limits and with $39 AF each, ouch! They have served their purpose and can retire now
Dumped my 5 y/o Cap 1 platinum
About to cancel my 6 year old Credit One Bank card. It got a reprieve last month when I called to cancel because they waived the annual fee for the next 6 months but I got two great approvals today so unless they feel like giving me a 20K CL......... It's about to be dead man walking.
Well, last month(last 2 actually) was pretty good for card killing. I picked up a few "grow with me cards" so I decided to boot the builders, even though I have had them for a couple years. Heres what I picked up and waht I axed:
Picked up:
USAA Visa Rewards-3k
Discover More-3k
Local CU -CLI 2k to 3500.00
Barclay Apple- CLI 2200.00 to 3500.00
Killed off:
First Premiere-550.00
Cap 1 Secured-800.00
Credit One- 500.00
Orchard-750.00
To start this month off right, my last Cap 1 is going down, that will do away with all my sub prime, sub 1k limits. Next stop 5k limits and an Amex(currently have a USAA secured Amex, but want the real deal)
1) Firestone Card by CFNA, $900
2) Jared The Galleria of Jewlery Card, $1500
3) Barclaycard iTunes Visa Rewards, $850
Up next, Capital One Platinum Visa, $1300. Just waiting for a dispute to be resolved in case it comes back (though it shouldn't).
Still up in the air if I want to put down my Best Buy card with $1500 CL. It's a store card backed by HSBC. I may just SD it.
Once you get a few prime cards with a good rewards program, I really dont see the use in a store card unless it offer superior benefits, which most dont.
