How is that?

Also, how is the US Bank Cash Plus card? Do you love it? And I have a question about your Sallie Mae card. In your Sig it says you earn 3% Cash Back on Dining, but I can't find any mention of that on the Sallie Mae cc site. Is that correct?

Im not TMWC, but SM offers SOME people quarterly specials, giving an extra 2% on certain categories.   So if these are 1% categories, it becomes 3%, and if 5%, they become 7%.     And quite often, once you start getting them, you keep getting them

Re: Cash benefits...

In 2014, I got $250 back from Discover on $10,000 spend. I guess half of all charges were on the 5%. First half of 2014, I only had 2 CCs with a total CL of <$5,000.

Now, 25+ cards and almost $200K in total CL. Craycray.

My goal is to average 2.5% back. Most of my spending is restaurants and entertainment. I really should get the Chase AARP card for 3%.

I spend <$1k per YEAR in gas. Same with groceries.

This year, I'm expecting around $1,250, based on $50K spend.

Wow, your spend and cards in your signature (what I have AND mostly want) look very close to my profile. I'm very curious to whether you see specific benefits or cons to getting a Banna Republic, J Crew, Best Buy and Amazon.com Chase Visa card. Those are all cards I'm considering applying for. I don't do a huge spend at either store anymore, but have shopped very regularly in the past at Banana, Best Buy & Amazon.

Also, how did you manage to get such a huge jump in available credit and cards in such a short amount of time? What was your applying technique/timeframe?

Re: Cash benefits...

Hmm.  Well, "cash benefits" is tricky.  While I prefer cash redemption, I often take gift cards or travel if I can get more bang for the redemption buck.  So it's hard to say when I'm earning rewards, how those rewards will be redeemed.

I can tell you that in 2014 I earned $6,048.13 in rewards on spending of $75,603.70, for an average of 8%, which isn't too bad. The total rewards earned is a record for me, going back to 2009. Note that for non-cash based cards, rewards earned are based on a nominal redemption rate; airline miles, hotel points, FlexPerks points, URP, are all valued at 1¢ per point. In reality, I try to get much more out of them. So far, I've managed to get almost 2¢ per FlexPerks point redemption, and thanks to some other posters on this board, I plan to get much more than 1¢ per point out of my URP.  My averge annual earnings are $4,077.96.

Redemeption is the other side of the coin. I do tend to prefer cash which, for my purposes, I define as money I can spend anywhere; paper checks, deposits to bank accounts, statement credits (which either reduce how much I have to pay out on a future statement or I call CS and have a paper check sent to me for my credit balance), or Visa, M/C, AmEx or Discover gift cards (my least favorite option, but reduce the amount of future spending). But I will redeem for other items of value (store gift cards, airline flights, hotel stays, etc.) when the redemption rate is better than for cash (e.g. Discover or AmEx PRG), or when I have no other options (e.g. airline, hotel cards). In 2014, I redeemed $4,796.78 of rewards, of which $3,610.82 was in cash. The remainder was redeemed as store gift cards. While $4,796.78 redeemed was not a record, $3,610.82 in cash was a record for me.  My average annual redemptions are $4,042.69 of which $2,485.05 is in cash.

Without detailing all 34 cards, here are the highlights for 2014:

Earnings include normal rewards earning, special offers (AmEx offers, Discover Deals, etc.) and signup bonuses, but not non-card bonuses, like TopCashBack or other shopping portals, since I could still get those using a debit card or even a check (in theory).

Re: Cash benefits...

I switched to a verizon pre paid plan. I pay for $100 worth of minutes each year, and thus the minutes do not expire for a year. And as long as I renew, the leftover minutes accumulate each year, so I have a pretty good surplus since I typically use about $50 of minutes per year.

easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

Edit: I just checked, I have $215 in my account, and its scheduled to auto pay $100 the first week of July. So I have about $200 surplus accumulated in case I ever need it.

Re: Cash benefits...

I only have one rewards card right now so my earnings are not optimized based on spending, but I still average 2.5% cash back each month since I've had it so I'll take it.  Q3's cash back will be pretty low, though, because with my Discover the Q3 stores don't really align with anything I'm looking to purchase with the exception of Amazon, but that's hardly a primary spend location for me.

Interestingly, one of the movie theatres near me codes as a home improvement store (don't ask me why, it makes no sense to me), so maybe I'll go see a couple movies there during Q3 for the cash back.

When I get to where I want to be I want to average over 4% back, but I've got quite a while yet until that happens.
