In the purchase summary and on the statement it shows the total purchase but breaks out the cash back separately (i.e.. $100.00 total / $60.00 cash back). I like the fact that it is treated just like a purchase, with no cash advance fee. Of course there is no earned rewards cash on it either.
I've used it several times and not a peep from Discover. I do PIF Discover every month but I don't think that makes a difference. As someone said above, it's easier than finding a network ATM or paying extra fees to pull cash on a debit card.
