Chance of getting approved for the BCE?

I'd like to app for the Amex Blue Cash Everyday in January to help out my AAOA and get cashback on groceries. My oldest card is an AU on my mom's Chase Freedom (10 months). I also got a Capital One secured card in April ($200 limit), and a Discover It ($1500 limit) and an Amex Zync (NPSL) in August. I have since closed the CapOne card, which didn't really affect my score.

The worst part about my history is the fact that I have 8 inquiries on Equifax. However, I only have 4 inquiries on Experian, and from what I've heard, Amex is more likely to pull that one. 3 of those 4 inquiries on Experian will be over 6 months old by the time I app for the BCE in January. Do you think I have a good shot at it?

If you've spent and paid well on your Z, and you have no "baddies"  (derogatorys) on your reports, I think you'd have a fairly good chance but no guarantee.

Re: Chance of getting approved for the BCE?

I've been putting about $100 on it every month and paying it off before the statement cuts. My Discover has seen a lot more usage due to the 5% cashback. Hopefully Amex won't penalize me for not using the card that much.

Re: Chance of getting approved for the BCE?

Let us know what happens when you go for it in January!

I will be applying for BCP in December, also with very short history, but without an Amex charge.  I suppose you should check back in after my results, and see if that makes you gun shy (denial), or encourages you to pull the trigger (approval).

In My Wallet: Amex BCP (12/12) $50,000, Chase Freedom (12/12) $16,500, Cap1 Quicksilver (6/12) $14,000, Barclaycard Rewards (5/13) $10,500, Citi Prestige (4/16) $30,000

Last App: June 27, 2015

Re: Chance of getting approved for the BCE?

Apply Delta Gold then PC into BCE. Charging straight into BCE with limited credit history will almost nets you a denial. I tried it several times, couple of them while holding a Zync (now cancelled).

Zync does very little to get you an AMEX credit card. I holded the card for about a year and AMEX denied me everytime for BCE. I cancelled Zync and applied AMEX HHonors couple months later and was instantly approved. I then PCed into BCE right away.

Re: Chance of getting approved for the BCE?

Like trumpet suggested, apply for the Delta and then PC it, and make sure to keep your history good with them. Amex will most likely pull EX for any card you apply. But I would say in general they would expect 1-1.5 years of history and card use before granting you the BCE. That was the reason that Chase gave me for denial (they wanted to see some more established accounts before they give me a card, they haven't seen the 3 I have applied and gotten accepted for yet, my goal is to try in May for it). I have 4 cards and I think it is more then enough for me for now.

Re: Chance of getting approved for the BCE?

I'd like to know this as well.

Also, am I correct in thinking that if I get denied, it won't count as a hard pull since I have the Zync?

You don't need to wait. As soon as you receive the card just send a secure message to AMEX and they will PC the card right away.

Yes, however AMEX will keep in mind about that application. On my third attempt on BCE while still holding that card, AMEX threw "numours applications with AMEX" as one of the denial reason to my face.
