I recently did a 3x CLI on one of my amex cards. Does amex give auto clis? If so will they not do it within six months of a user initiated CLI? The reason why I am considering this is I have an amex spg card coming up for renewal. I'm going to try to get the AF waived or some sort of retention offer. The biggest problem with the card is that the credit line is only 2k compared with my other amex cards at 17k & 15k. It limits how much I can run through the SPG which makes it less valuable to me, but I do like starpoints.
You have to wait 6 months from the date of your last increase on your other cards.
I received a auto-cli on my True earnings card a couple of months after my 90 clI request. That was after I put 2500 on it for a new refrigerator.

Similar experience here... Only after I missed an internatinal return flight and had to rebook (not cheap)... Did amex give me a CLI. Always paid the card in full from day 1. So it is definatly possible, but if not you can always request it at some point down the road!

What percentage of your credit line at the time was the 2.5k?

How much of your credit line did you use before the CLI was triggered?
I got an auto-cli luv on my Hilton Honors Surpass card, was staying a hotel 4 days a week, and charging them all, while PIF as much as possible I got auto-CLI of 1500, after about 3-4 months of doing this... card routinely had a 2500-3000 balance. So it does happen.
I was using my Delta AMEX $2k limit regularly, PIF every month, then after having it for about a year, started really leaning on it, got to a point where I was carefully making a lot of charges (including one of $800) to put the card within $100 of the absolute limit... then paid the whole thing off the next month. I did get an auto CLI in the next month, from $2k to $3k.
If you like the StarPoints, just go ahead and use the card up to $2,400 and PIF. AMEX won't care. Your FICO score should not be impacted very much, and before you know it 6 months will have gone by and in the meantime you may have gotten a bump in auto CLI, to be able to do more with the 3X when eligible.
(others here will cry out that the utilization at $2,400 is Too Much, but there is no "Utilization Monster" out there. AMEX Auto CLI only come to those who face the dragon of high utilization head on... and then PIF the next month)

Except my limit omn the card is 2k so I think Amex will have an issue if I charge 2400 each month.

You could contact Amex and ask if you are eligible to move some of the credit limit from one of your other Amex cards to the Delta card. Sure, you could try to look up the rules, but its easier to just call or chat them and ask.
