Thanks for the great info that is shared on this forum. I'm learning a lot about credit. I've improved my FICO scores to EQ-705 and Exp - 700 from mid 500s a year ago, however, my UTIL is around 45%. I'd like to apply for an AMEX card but before I do, does anyone have experience with getting an AMEX card approved with a UTIL of around 45%?

I would lower that to 10% before you App
Closingracer99, thanks for your quick reply. I suspected that I would need to get my UTIL lower. Thanks for confirming.

30% is the recommended max regardless of the creditor one is thinking of applying with. Get your utilization under 30%. Your odds, CL and APR will improve the closer you get it to optimal (only one balance reporting at 10% or less). You might be able to get an approval with 45% but CL and APR will suffer.

I think the chance would be very income sensitive. If you have a nice income that supports your current debt, your DTI (debt-to-income) is lower. Amex has been known to not approve with the reasoning of DTI being too high. The ways to change that are either, lower debt, or have the income to support the debt you have.

Well I got a Delta Gold with 40% util. It happens.
Nobody saying it is impossible because we don't know ... Just helps to have it around 10% when you apply to have the maximum chance of getting approved
