Chase Freedom Success RECON

This post is to help those who may be in a similar situation and are on the fence about app'ing for a Chase Freedom card.

7/18/12: Opened Chase Premier Checking Account and received a $200 sign-up bonus for new customers.

8/8/12: Applied for and was approved for Walmart Store Card and Amazon Store Card with $300 and $600 limit respectively. Immediately after this approval I applied online for the Chase Freedom card and was given the 10-day review message. Checked automated status line at (800) 436-7927 to and each time told me that it was still under review.

8/9/12: Couldn't wait any longer and called (888) 245-0625 and spoke to a somewhat foreign woman who informed me I was denied due to too many inquiries (18 to be exact) and didn't give me a chance to really explain anything.

About an hour later I tried the main recon number (888) 270-2127 and got through to a real nice gentleman who let me explain my inquiries and 2 charge offs from 2007. He placed me on hold and transfered me to an identifiy verification customer service rep who verified some basic information with me. She placed me on hold for 2 minutes and came back with this:

Thank you for applying for the Chase Freedom credit card (at this point I was expecting 'however at this time we are unable to approve you for this product) and I am pleased to welcome you to the Chase family! You will be receiving your card and welcome package in the mail within 5-7 business days. You credit line is $2000.00. (*faints*) At this point I bring up the posibility of having the card expedited to me at which point she told me that would be no problem as long as someone was around to sign for the UPS package that will arrive by the end of this week at no extra charge.

Keep in mind my FICO is 635 EQ, 660 TU, 650 EX due to 2 charge offs from 2007 and a 60 day late from 2009 and 18 inquiries!

I was expecting a 500-1000 credit limit so whenever she said $2000 I was completely blown away.

I think my exact words were "Thank you so much and I look forward to being a Chase customer for life!"

Re: Chase Freedom Success RECON

This is the kinda post that make you go against all better judgment and hit that send button...knowing very well you will be denied because your circumstances/luck are not the same...so you will not get the same results.  Heehee. Smiley Very Happy

Congrats Jlu, that is an awesome limit coming from Chase.  They are notorious for giving out 500 CL to fico scores better than yours!

Re: Chase Freedom Success RECON

None of the 18 credit inquiries were from mortgages/loans/auto - they were mostly Capital One CLI requests. which the analyst seemed to comletely understand.

Re: Chase Freedom Success RECON

10 inquiries in 3 months. Capital One pulls ALL 3 bureaus for CLI.
