Well I applied for a Chase Freedom card about 2-3 weeks ago. I was told additional infomration would be needed so I called the recon line.
I had to provide drivers license and ss card. Called back about a week later: App still processing so I figured I was denied. I logged into my Chase banking account and now there is a credit card attached with a limit of $3K - my biggest limit!

Congrads - I went through the same. Took a call to corporate, even, to get my $3500 line. It is now my Walmart card (until it changes from grocery to restaurants in June)

Congrats! I was granted a $3k starting limit on my Freedom card just yesterday. I called up the recon line and had them bump it to $15k. I've been very impressed with Chase's customer service so far.

Walmart doesn't count as a grocery store for the bonus.

Checking my bonus points statment, Walmart in fact does count as a grocery store.

If you look at the terms of the offer, they give you merchant codes considered grocery.
Without looking, I believe Walmart is coded 5411 (grocery) no matter what you buy there.
Google the term "visa merchant codes" and locate the merchant search from Visa's site - you can type in Walmart and like 3 codes come up - match it to Walmart's code and Chase Freedom's offer.

It counts if it's a Super Walmart (sells groceries too), but regular Walmart is usually not counted.

Wow! How'd you manage that? They gave me $3k and refused a CLI on recon. Do you recall which number you called?

I tell the (lengthy) story here: http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Cards/Appro
I called the Chase lending team at 888-270-2127. Good luck!
