Chase IHG to be replaced?

There seems to be some chatter that the existing Chase IHG card is going to be replaced with two different IHG cards, one of which will not offer the free night, and one that will (at nearly double the current AF). Chase has pulled the IHG card from their main page but this link still works. Now might be the time to app in the hopes that you are grandfathered into the existing $49 AF terms.

Re: Chase IHG to be replaced?

Perhaps it's being changed to a Visa to match every other Chase card in the portfolio.

Re: Chase IHG to be replaced?

Didn't they just change it from Visa to MC recently though?

Re: Chase IHG to be replaced?

The new cards are still Mastercard. Someone on another blog posted a screenshot of the application page.

Unless someone is elite with a luxury brand (and travels mostly to places with such hotels), doesn't bother with loyalty programs, or doesn't travel at all...it seems odd to me that someone wouldn't have one.

But panic can certainly inspire a few apps.

Re: Chase IHG to be replaced?

I don't have one and travel quite a bit. While I was thinking about picking up this card I don't think rushing out is going to change anything. If they nerf where the free nights can be used it could really impact the value of the card. I remember trying to redeem hotel certs with capped categories and pretty much only being able to use them in places I had no intention of visiting and even when I could use them I could almost get the room for the same cost as the AF. I guess time will tell but I'm not about to app until I know exactly how useful these certs will be going forward.

Keep in mind the first-year AF is waived and the card comes with a bonus. It's not like you're paying $500 up front. There's not very much to lose in getting one.

Maybe the card will be nerfed before you can use the night. This card has been overdue for a nerf for several years.

But I'm glad I didn't hold off apping because of nerfing worries.
