If I were to take a stab-in-the-dark guess, I'd say they're waiting to see the update to that credit card balance. That's not based on experience, just on a gut feeling based on the situation.
That's strange, since when i went for my Freedom account and called for a recon, they were able to do it right away. Let us know how it goes! If you do get the card, you will love it! I already love mine!

My Eq fico score is 729 now, actually.
I would normally agree that they are waiting to see the update on the cbr but they said it should be done today and we all know it will not be updated on the cbr's by today. I have a Sapphire already that I'm a AU on. That card is just cool to look at and touch! The other day a clerk said we only take visa/mastercard, I flipped the card over and she said oh, never seen anything like this before.
I'll try and call later on today to see what's going on.
Today's update: Nothing really, called in and they said its still in a pending status.
Called today again for a status and they seriously can't tell me anything. It's in a manual review/pending status. I asked why it wasn't decisioned right away when I asked for a recon and he said at times they go into this status. Crazy, I'm just assuming its a no.
That sucks that it is taking that long.
I plan on applying for the Sapphire Preferred in September this year. I hope they still have the $500 promotion then. *crosses fingers*
Good luck to you! Hope it works out for ya. I do not want to push my luck with them but I swear everyone else gets a approval or denial right away on the call when they ask for a recon.

Not necessarily. I applied for the Continental card like 3 months ago when they were having the 50k mile promotion (since I just got the 50k promotion from United so I could combine the programs for 100k miles). And after a week, I called, and they kept saying processing, and to wait, and I called every day for a week and they kept saying the same thing. Then one day I got a letter in the mail saying they denied me for having too many accounts with balances (I don't pay off before statements generate, too much hassle for me lol). I just gave up, didn't care anymore lol.
SO, there is hope for you, sometimes they DO take that long to decide.
I just think the card is cool looking...that's all! I hope they take into consideration that my balances have went down from my last CBR they pulled. Who knows, I guess it doesn't matter. I have a sapphire card as a AU if all else fails! Just awesome to look at!
Do you personally have any current or past accounts with Chase? I know that helps ALOT, I was told that by a rep when I got my United card when they were verifying my employment when I applied for that one.
Edit to add: When I applied for my United card I had with Chase: a mortgage, a Chase Freedom card, checking account, savings account, and old paid auto loan from 2007, and an old (closed by me) perfect history Freedom Plus card from 2007.
