From what was said by a CSA today - if you've got a Chase pre-approval, then unless you've got something bad that only appears in a hard pull its a pretty high chance of approval.
...and if not, there is always recon. =)

No this is not accurate. I have tried it before and I never have a card pop up even though my profiles are open to offers etc. I have been able to obtain instant approvals for multiple chase cards though even without offers showing up.

Slate is mostly a BT card whereas Freedom is a 5% cash back card

+1 It really depends on your needs. Each card does has a different focus.

First you have to figure whats right for you
Do you have balances and need a BT card?
Will cash back be better for my spending habits
Because you see pre-approval is not a reason to app a card that doesn't reward you?
So underwriting should also be considered based on the card of YOUR choice and not will I be approved based on underwriting and a pre-approval
