Chase travel cards and BK?

Because of the way I travel the Chase-backed Marriott and Southwest cards would be very useful to me.  I'm over three years from Chapter 7 and did not discharge any Chase debt.  I really don't want to waste a hard inquiry.

At the very beginning of their application a question is asked, "Is your credit history clear from bankruptcies and/or seriously delinquent accounts?"

Re: Chase travel cards and BK?

I got a United card 6 years post BK.  You'll likely need to recon though.

Re: Chase travel cards and BK?

I opened a Chase Southwest Visa in July, 9 years after Chapter 7 BK. I had to recon to get the approval.

Good luck

Re: Chase travel cards and BK?

Thanks for the feedback, any ideas how old the BK needs to be to get through recon?

Re: Chase travel cards and BK?

I am in a similar situation with you....however the BK is the real concern....from what I have read through these forums Chase is not BK friendly and I have not been willing to risk the inquiry. I have decided I would stay away from Chase until my BK is around the 7 year mark. I have had luck with Discover and Barclays and will look into some of the GECRB credit cards.

Re: Chase travel cards and BK?

I suggest not wasting the HP. 3 years is way to short for Chase. Visit the BK thread for an excellent selection of BK friendly creditors. Have you re-established credit since your discharge or are you looking to start?

If you are already re-established, a Barclays will likely approve you for priceline, but be prepared to recon. Discover is a little more YMMV with some successful apps at about the 4 year mark with solid history post discharge.

Re: Chase travel cards and BK?

Thanks for all the replies.  I've seen the comments about Chase not being BK friendly, and I have adequate unsecured credit (NFCU Visa, MC, Navcheck; FTCU VISA, BBRZ, Walmart Discover GECRB).  So I think I'll wait to season the BK at least another year and get my scores into the 700s before I think about applying.

Because I fly Southwest there's a feature on that card that appeals to me, the ability to use points for things other than airfare.
