You have to open the 2nd card before closing the 1st card or it resets another 2 years.
This is exactly why I'm wondering if I need to wait until the next month or the next statement to apply for the new card. And yes, I get that I'll need to keep the old one until after I get the new one.
I received an AA bonus after applying for a card 24 months to the day after opening the previous one.
