I just wanted to throw it out there that I am a landlord, and I would care if a potential tenant was credit card searching immediately before filling out a rental application. Of course there are other factors but...just being real.

So as a landlord, what do you consider too many inquiries? I've lived in many (15+) different apartments (both private and corporate) and inquiries were never an issue.
Not the inquiries in and of themselves, the looking for credit as in credit cards. It's a case by case basis. Income and references have a much higher priority (as well as demeanor and how long the person wants to live at a particular place). Recent derogatory marks and lates are a huge red flag, as well as judgments, of course. There are certain credit checks out there, specifically for landlords, that do not show the entire credit profile but these sites actually "grade" the potential tenant on their likelihood for paying rent.
