Re: Check whether you have a BT offer

Citi kept telling me for a while that they couldn't change my product (from the old Drivers Edge to Citi Forward).  Eventually a representative told me that it was because I had 0% balance transfer offers available on my account.  (Generally they seem to give me a new 0% BT offer every month so at any given time there's always a BT offer available.)  Last month I asked a phone representative to opt me out of BT offers, and a few weeks later, I saw online that the BT offers had disappeared.  Then I called back and asked for a product change and it went through.

You can see if you have BT offers at citicards.com, Tools & Services > Request a Balance Transfer.  If you see any kind of promotion there for any rate lower than your normal purchase rate, that's probably what's causing the problem.  Just opt out of BT offers and you should be able to do a product change within a few weeks.  After the product change, you can ask the phone representative to opt you back into BT offers if you want those.  It will take another month or so to see BT offers again.

Icon, Thanks for sharing this information with us. I recently applied for the Citi CashReturns pre-approval offer and have made two unsuccessful attempts to convert it to the Citi Forward. I've since followed your recommendation to opt of of the BT offer. I will call Citi again in a few weeks to see if I am able to convert. During my two previous attempts I was told that, "This option is not available". Even an Account Manager insisted that she did not have the option to convert my CashReturns to a Forward. Now that I've opted out of the BT, I hope to hear a different response the next time I call. I"ll update this thread of the results either way. Thanks again!

Re: Check whether you have a BT offer

I've been having difficulty getting Citi to stop attaching balance transfer offers to my new Citi CashReturns card. After four requests via the online 'message center'  I received this reply: "Your account has been reviewed by an escalations specialist. Our marketing team creates lists of qualified cardholders several weeks in advance. As stated in our previous message, please allow 30 days for your name to be removed from the marketing list for balance transfers." So it looks like I have to wait.
