Hey all,
So I've read a couple posts re: it's hard to PC student cards and they have caps; my Citi dividend is the student version...is it really that hard to PC? And how bad are the CL caps? Shouldn't I be able to (in the future-not worried too much about it right now) apply for the TYP and transfer limits?
I'm just curious because I also know that Citi can be fairly generous with CLI's so what damage have I done with the student version?!? Lol

Correct. Student CC's usually have restrictions that don't allow a PC to their mainline cards (and viceversa), including allocating CLs. The CL caps are based on the individual's internal profile (amongst a few factors) since Citi will not provide what those caps are. For instance, and from a Citi student CC perspective, if you are a "risky" accountholder then your cap could be set at ~$1K or if you have handled your account in an exceptional manner and have along history then your cap could be set at ~$3K.
That being said, Citi tends to change their PC policies frequently and what may be applicable today may not be so in the next several months or next year. Best to contact them to see what options would be available should you want to PC.
Not what I wanted to hear...but here's hoping years down the road, Citi will just be so fascinated with me, they'll PC
Thanks, Finstar
I actually apped (when I apped) for the non Student Dividend (even though I'm a graduate student). I plan to keep all of my cards that I have right now for the long term, and it seems easier than having to PC. And there are no CL caps that I know of for a regular card like a student card. I also applied for the non Student Discover, but unfortunately, once I said I was a student, it automatically switched my app to the Student one . And it gave me a craptastic CL, but oh well.

My Citi Forward is a student card and they started it off with 4000 when I got it last May (I am a senior this year). At the time I already had the Simplicity and Thank You Preferred with high limits, so I am not sure if that had any influence. I recently got a credit limit increase on my Forward bringing it to 5.1k.
As for product changing... I haven't tried changing my Forward because I feel it is still one of Citi's best offerings (and that's hardly giving them credit).

Yes, the (old) forward is certainly among the best Citi offerings, just not available with decent rewards any more. Just hope they don't change for existing users..
Just a quick question, because this topic falls in line with a question that I've come up with recently.
I called both Discover and CITI asking about the credit cards that I have with them (Discover IT & Dividends) and both times that I've talked with an "account specialist" or CSR, they have said that there is no difference between the student versions, which is what I have, and the regular versions.
Am I just talking to the wrong people? Can I later on if I want to apply for the regular Dividends or IT card? I'm kind of confused in the regards of how to change an account from the student level, or if there is even a differentiation and the cards just take longer to develop into higher credit limits?

I have heard that several times from Discover, but I am convinced that it is not true. My Discover (student) card has always been my lowest limit card by far and I have inquired several times in the past about converting it to a standard card and I get the same response. I have no desire to expend inquiries to raise the limit because the card doesn't really fit in with my rewards strategy and is simply there.... "just because."
As for Citi, I can only go by my experience with them that I mentioned in an earlier post. I had no issue getting a SP CLI on my student Forward six months after having it. I'm sure if I wanted to proceed with a HP they would have given a substantial increase as well.
My Citi Dividend was originally the student version. When I graduated from college I called to find out what would happen to the card (I was naive and thought that Citi would care that I was no longer a "student"). Anyway, they said they would just convert it to the non-student version (which is exactly the same as far as I know). So I guess if you have a student version of a card with a non-student version then it isn't a problem to get it PCed.. but idk about the other cards that don't have a student version.
