Citi - Worst Recon ever

Hello all.

I applied for the citi dividend card yesterday. I recieved a 7-10 day message. When I called Citi underwring , they said my application looks good and the only thing that is stopping them from approving it is the verification of identity.

So they asked me to go to a branch. Unfortunately there are no branches in the surrounding areas. So they said that they have to decline my application and they are very sorry to do this.

I was completely stunned! Why couldn't they verify it over the phone!

do you have fraud alert on your reports? or were there citi accounts that were opened using your SSN previously that weren't authorized? were you a victim of identity theft in the past?

sounds like they're taking extra precaution for some reason. this is the 1st time i've seen this. 

normally like any other bank they would just ask u to answer some questions, and then ask you to fax in documents if necessary.

The closest location is around 3 hrs and 40 minutes of driving distance.

I talked to recon. Apparently they cannot do anything about this. I HAVE to verify my god forsaken identity in a bank branch!

So I went ahead and applied for the USBANK cash+ visa. They approved me with an 8000 limit(Its my first card over 5000).

I am elated!
