Citi cards and CLI

I've had this Diamond Preferred AMEX for about 6 months and I've been stuck at a paltry $1800 limit.Yes, it's pathetic considering my other cards. In January, I converted from a Platinum Select Mastercard to this but I've had the account in total for a year. No CLI although the rate went from 18.99% to 28.99% to 14.24%. Long story short, I want a higher limit and the hard pull form is present on the website. Is it better to call or should I fill out the form?

Re: Citi cards and CLI

If you fill out the form online, it will result in a  hard pull of your credit report.  Best thing is, since you got the form, to call customer service, speak to a supervisor, and see if you can go that route.  If may only result in a soft pull, which results in a coded account review on your bureau, and you won't lose points due to it.  If all else fails, i'd ask to speak to a retention specialist to close it, (just threaten to close).  They will work hard to keep you, and the retention specialist has the power to increase it just to keep you as a cardholder.

Having worked at Citi for many years, i've seen this work on numerous ocassions.

Good luck!

I agree, call and see if you can finagle a review without needing a hard pull, gotta try and dodge the hard pull bullets anyway you can. Smiley Happy

Re: Citi cards and CLI

Typically if you get the form, you wait a while and try again until you don't get the form unless you're ok with an HP.

I'm pretty sure calling will also result in a HP until your acct has an available SP increase.

Re: Citi cards and CLI

Why would you bother with a higher limit though? You have cards with higher limits, and as far as I know, Citi reports neither the credit limit nor the high balance.

There are only a scant few products, like siggie and world MC that may not report, otherwise they typically do.

Macy's store card (citi/DSNB) does not report but that is another exception to the rule.

Re: Citi cards and CLI

They keep waiving BT offers at me; half a dozen emails every week and the paper thats wasted on the 1 or 2 envelopes filled with checks. It's 0% for several months.

So really, if there is a form on the website, it results in a hard pull regardless if I call in or not?

This card does report a limit but I do not allow a balance to report. Of all my cards, only my Macy's card doesn't report a limit. I have a Radio Shack (also Citi) and a Newegg card and they aren't on my reports.
