Citi cards question

I am looking into applying for a card with a good intro balance transfer option. I see that the Citi Simplicity and Citi Diamond preferred both have 0% options for 21 months which would be awesome but I also hear their starting limits can be kind of low. I am looking to transfer about $5000 from higher rate card so I'd at least need $6000 limit. I was approved for the Citi AAdvantage card with a $7000 starting limit about a month and a half ago. Is this indicative of a good chance of approval for another Citi card and the kind of limit I might get with the BT card? Just looking for some opinions from people who have their cards as I don't want to waste a hard pull for a card that won't be useful. My scores are high 690s to 710s. Thanks in advance!

Re: Citi cards question

You might apply, but your AAdvantage card may begin to get BT offers. I have two of them, both have regular 3% fee 18 month BT offers.

Check on line, in the menus such as card offers, it may already be there, or you can call to express interest in BT offers.

High Bal Jan 2009 $116k on $146k limits 80% Util.
Oct 2014 $46k on $127k 36% util EQ 722 TU 727 EX 727
April 2018 $18k on $344k 5% util EQ 806 TU 810 EX 812
Jan 2019 $7.6k on $360k EQ 832 TU 839 EX 831
March 2021 $33k on $312k EQ 796 TU 798 EX 801

How is your UT on the CitiAdvantage? If it is low (<5%), keep it low and give it 2-3 months. Like NRB, I keep getting bank transfer offers via BT checks at 0% interest, 3% fee to July 2018. GL.

Re: Citi cards question

I've put about $3500 through it so far and paid it off. It has a zero balance at the moment. Should I put more spend on it you think?

Re: Citi cards question

Like others have mentioned, I get BT offers on my Citi cards all the time so give it a few more months. I tend to get a lot of offers when there's very little activity, but ymmv. You want to make sure you read the fine print on BT offers because most of the time purchases will accrue interest (if not in a 0% introductory period) if you do a BT.

If you have a Cap1 credit card, check them for BT offers too. Sometimes you get a 2% BT fee instead of the customary 3%.

If you decide to apply for another card, check out BoA new BankAmericard. It has no BT fees if you submit the request within the first 60 days (I think). It's on the main page. Check it out. They aren't offering 21 months but it might be worth looking into.

Good luck!Smiley Wink

Continue to use the card, yes, because it may take some time for the BT to show up.

In the meantime, what other cards do you have and their limits? Open balances?

I have Chase CSP $25,000, Amazon $5000 and IHG $4500, Discover at $14,800, UMCU $10,000, and a few others that don't matter for this purpose (Lowes, Macys, etc).

The CSP has a $7000 balance and the Discover has about $6000 as well. I plan to pay one of them in full and would like to use a 0% BT offer to pay the other over time to free up some cash.

Re: Citi cards question

Just solved my issue. Was just approved for the Huntington Voice card with a $10,000 limit. They had a 0% for 12 month offer. Not as long as I wanted but probably best to get my payoff kicked into high gear. Thanks everyone for your input!
