Closing Accounts

Does closing accounts only affect your score if it makes your utility increase, or does just closing make your score drop??

Re: Closing Accounts

Only affects util. The cl will no longer be calculated in total util. Stays on report 10yrs after closing.

Re: Closing Accounts

Closing your accounts will cause your utility to dip a bit. Make sure you have a nice cushion with your other credit limits to avoid a drop in score.

Discover $21k | Venture $20k | Quicksilver $15k | NICU Rewards MC $13.5k | Costco $14.5k | Citi Costco $12.5k | Chase Sapphire Reserve $10k | Barclay Apple $9.6k | Best Buy MC $10k | Merrick Bank Visa (formerly Hooters) $2.6k |

I keep less than 5% utility at all times, pay my balances multiple times a month, so I should be good.
