Hi I'm 23

I want to close my capital one platinum card (credit card I've had the longest had for a year and some months)

and my capital one journey card (had for 8 months )

Total cards I have

Chase freedom (3 months)

citi divedend (3 months)

Amex blue cash everyday (just recived today)

Now what i basically want to do is close the journey and platinum cards i have with capital one, then re open an account with the capital one with the cash back card with no annual fee. I want to cut these two capital one cards because they are basically useless to me.

my credit is perfect. no late payments and paid in full EVERY month. obviously id close each after the full balance is paid off next month.

I just want to know if this will have a bad effect on my credit if i open a new capital one cash back card, then close my other two (platinum and journey cards)

Looking over this thread and your responses you have a very short AAoA which is due to recent approvals of chase, citi and amex. At this point you have at least 3 HP's in the last 4 months quite possible more if any of those lenders pulled more than one CB. It's truly time to stop applying for any cards including cap1 which will result in 3 more HP's. Try the EO route and see if they will do a PC or remove an AF if you have one.

IMO it's time to hit the garden at best all you would get from cap1 is a toy limit.

Why take the chance with a new amex and chance at 3x increase in 61 days?

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

Re: Closing capital 1 credit cards?

Will do.

Just to be sure. When you say "time to hit the gardens"

That basically means to lay low and dont send out anymre applications correct?

How long would you suggest for?

BCE - 12k
Cap 1 QuickSilver - 1.75k
Citi Dividend - 2.4k
Discover It - 2k
Chase - 800
Your FICO® score at Equifax is 725 (Update: Increased to 751) =]

I think you will still get the 100 bonus if you product change, and try to email someone who has a higher say on approvals. If I was you, I wouldn't get another Cap1 card. I'm gonna close my journey in the coming month, just not feeling capital one and they are really stingy about giving more credits.

@CredittotheMax

PCs are not eligible for any sign up bonuses-in general.

@OP

I agree with the others, try to email the EO, ask for CLI, APR reduction and AF waived if applicable. Garden your cards because your AAOA has got to be non-existent now
