Anyone know if this works with some companies? For example Barclay and Chase. If you app for a new card and do a HP CLI for a different card on the same day will they show up as one on the reports, or will they be sneaky and do another pull a couple days later?
Just planning my down the road strategies.

It's not really about them being sneaky. The new account and CLI are two separate requests, both of which you know ahead of time require a HP, and are giving permission for it. So, there's every reason to expect that you will get two separate HPs.
Keep in mind it's not Barclay or Chase who decides to combine pulls. If two HPs are submitted by the same company to the same bureau on the same day, the credit bureau itself sometimes decides it's a "duplicate" and removes the second. This is highly YMMV, never guaranteed, etc.
To answer your question, I've heard that pulls don't tend to combine with Barclay's even if it is the same day. Maybe something about the way they are submitted. With Chase it is also iffy.
I'd just anticipate two HPs and take comfort that realistically the second HP is not a big deal as it's not resulting in a new account.

Also, some banks, in certain states, will pull one (or more) CRAs for apps and a different one for CLIs
