Comenity closed? Or...froze? :(

First and foremost I apologize if this is in the wrong area. Please, if need be, move to proper section, thanks!

So here's the situation:

I have the following accounts with Comenity (all of which uti is 40% or lower and yes I know, I need to get down to 20-30%, some are at $0)
*Sports Authority Limit $250
*VS Angel Limit $3850
*Peebles Limit $250
*Meijer Limit $800
*Venus Limit $1650
*Maurices Limit $2850

My portfolio is pretty unbiased when it comes to what banks I work with. I've got accounts with Navy Fed, Synchrony, TIC Federal, U.S. Bank, etc.

I at one point had HSN with a limit of $3k ($0 balance). Had never used it in the 8 months of having it and then recently decided to purchase a DSLR (Canon with 2 kit lenses and extras). The order was cancelled because they couldn't verify with me (even though nobody called or anything). Called HSN card service and was connected to Fraud Dept. who said my account was temporarily closed to verify identity.

Problem? NONE of the questions pertained to me at all. I looked into my reports and all the info is correct so I have no idea.

I was told they had no choice but to close the account. So ban, there goes $3k available down the drain and I'm already livid.

Then as i log into to schedule my payment to VS I see the available credit is $0, same thing with all my comenity cards!! Smiley Sad

Does this mean they closed ALL of them without even trying to notify me or are they likely just suspended until I call each one to verify identity? I'm panicking that my credit score will tank to sub 400's thanks to accounts being closed by grantor/fraud/etc.

I've tried sending secure messages but of course they're not available yet and won't be for a few hours.

My question: Has anyone had the issue of security not being able to verify their info on one bank backed card only to then have all other cards closed until identity could be verified?

How and what did they use to verify? Questions over the phone? I'm out visiting family right now so I don't have access to my SS card or any utility bills so I'm worried I'll just have to deal with a tanked score and frankly it's got me nearly sick to my stomach.

I'm also worried that the same questions will be asked each time and each time they'll have to close the accounts because none of the questions were relative to me :/

I should also add that I've NEVER, in the 8+ years I've had most of these accounts never been late or over the limit and never maxed out so I don't think it would be anything other than the stupid HSN issue that would be effecting my comenity stuff.

Wow good luck! Hopefully you can get it sorted out. This would scare me also. Let us know what happens!

happened to my wife.....you will have to MAIL them documents ...ID  ss card utility bill ect, they will not accept faxes, they say it takes 3 weeks to proscess, but for here it took 7 days..... good luck ,

I've never heard of such a thing.  But since they're old,  I would get them straightened out.  I would also ask to speak to someone in authority.  If they denied my card, I would have called and said if that happens again, I will pif & close it down!  Have you updated your email, etc with all of these accounts?  I know they ask on occasion to update all your info so these kind of things don't happen.

You might be able to get more information through their EO (check the backdoor numbers thread). Eadacorp summed it up pretty well though, it sounds like a verification thing that requires documents via snail mail.

I actually didn't have to mail anything, though I was prepared to. Even though I'm on vacation away from home I always bring every paper necessary in the event something weird happens. I was ready with an envelope that had a copy of my birth certificate, citizenship documents, passport, SS Card, DL, 3 bank statements, etc.

I've cut and pasted the update I had posted. I meant it to go on here as a reply but for some reason I apparently wasn't paying attention and posted as a new thread.
I apologize for this being a new thread instead of just a reply on my original. Please move to proper location original should be titled "Comenity closed? Frozen? Smiley Sad" from yesterday:/ not sure why I posted a new one, sorry:/ not much of a forum user.

suppose I got the best I could get!

I called the VS Angel card number on the back and spoke with a fraud protection specialist. I explained what happened with the HSN account and she said she wasn't sure but she thought I'd just have to reapply for everything. Put me on hold for 20 minutes trying to find a sure answer.

She comes back on the line and says, "I was able to take a look at your credit history with the VS account and your other Comenity backed cards. We would hate to lose such a loyal customer so what I am able to do is retry the verification. She did and asked the same questions the HSN person asked and here's the kicker:

I GAVE THE SAME EXACT ANSWERS (all of which were doesn't apply or none of the above!) and she said she had never seen that before where all the question were none of the above or didn't apply. The n she says glorious words, "But it looks like it worked! You know what I can do? Unfortunately I can't reopen HSN since it shows closed for ail ute to verify already, but I can reinstate ALL your other comenity backed cards".

I about died! That was about the best answer I could've gottenSmiley Very Happy within minutes I was able to log back in and everything was back to normal as if it didn't happen.

And I'm ok about HSN because my husband applied with me listed on his account and it was immediately approved. So I guess other than taking a small hit for having a 3k account closed that's about as good as I could've asked for for a resolutionSmiley Happy
