The most recent CLIs on my Sportsman's Guide Visa and Fuel Rewards Mastercard were about 3 and a half weeks ago. Both were soft pulls.
OP- I think it is very strange Barneys would pull another EX hard report on you.
Are you sure you are looking at it correctly? Do you have an experian.com membership? I am just curious because I have one, and when Barneys soft pulls me, I get a notice that a lender is doing that. But its not a hard pull.

I think they are having a system issue. The same thing happened to my LB credit card. I called CS to verify that CLIs are still SPs and the rep confirmed with a resounding "Yes!"
Call CS and request HP be removed.
When I first got my Sportsman's Guide Visa card, CS said that all CLI requests are HP going forward. Now I know that we are talking CS here (ha ha), but we will have to expect the possibility of a HP any time we ask for a CLI, on any card.
I totally agree nor am I disputing what you were told. I can only comment or speak to my own experiences. Somehow that seems to keep being forgotten, but as I stated earlier to her/his own. If that is Comenity's policy going forward, then we will have to roll with the punches. My motto: Trust, but VERIFY. Maybe the CS rep and her manager I spoke to had NOT gotten the memo. I also went back to the site to verify the verbiage before calling just in case I had missed something. They submitted a request to have the HP removed for me. Thank you for sharing your experience! Knowledge is power!

Yes they do. Did you forget about the positive effect of a large limit on utilization? I sure could use a $30,000 limit card now. And for their regular shoppers, $30,000 is nothing.

I dont see the HP being removed. It is not inaccurate or wrong. OP seeked credit which can involve a HP. Nowhere does my Comenity BJs site say "no report will be pulled" or anything. Point is the HP was permissible and OP asked for a CLI, so just because desired results arent achieved doesnt mean the HP can suddenly be removed.
I also see no harm in requesting that it be removed (as opposed to expecting that it be removed). As with any other GW request, "expect the worst; hope for the best"

Right, just knowing that it is likely to be a futile effort. Nonetheless. Nothing ventured, Nothing gained!

I've done CLI requests multiple times on my Sportsman's, and so far there have been no hard pulls.

Only if it is on the card or set of cards you actually use. 90% utilization will still report as such even if you are at 8% overall and will still hurt your score/reports as much. Education is a wonderful thing. 😉
No one said to run one card up to 90%. If you have overall utilization of let's say 12%, no derogs, and need to run one card up to 40%, and 2 to 30-33%, you still can maintain scores in the 700's. That is the importance of extra limits/padding.

A $30K limit would drop my utilization from 2% to 1%. I'm pretty sure that would have no impact at all on my scores.
