Confused on Sallie Mae rewards

Does the Sallie Mae card from Barclay's offer 5% rewards on the first $250 spent on gas and groceries combined, or on the first $250 spent on gas and the first $250 for groceries?

Each category is separate, so up to $250 on gas, up to $250 on supermarkets, and upto $750 on "bookstores"

ive seen some include places like wal-mart, target, etc others do not..

plus groceries the same way?
