Convoluted Xponent Prepaid Scheme: Can it work?

Recently, Texaco Chevron have released a prepaid card, Xponent (backed by Discover), that grants discounts per gallon ($0.05 cents/gal). I was wondering if there was anyway to double dip with points. For example, I have my Amex BCE that collects 2% at gas stations. This can't work as Xponent requires linking to your bank. So then here is my question. Could I use paypal as my bank and have paypal linked to only my Amex BCE and pay for gas with the prepaid card and get points as I pump and when I pay?

This doesn't seem like it'd work but I'm looking for ideas to make this prepaid card work doubly. Any and all suggestions welcome.

I mostly did that to attract eyes. Lol...I have heard of double dipping with store gift cards, which I believe I can't make work for me(?)...but not with regards to gas.

I dont think it would work as intended...

Sounds like the old target redcard debit and CC loading.

I didn't think the actual MCC got passed via PayPal?

I haven't used PayPal in quite a while but IIRC it always showed up as PayPal blah blah blah on the transaction though I never checked things explicitly.

I don't believe it would work as paypal shows up as just paypal since the card you link is technically your "backup funding method".  In effect they are taking the cash from your paypal and then just taking the money from your card to bring your paypal balance back to 0.

Re: Convoluted Xponent Prepaid Scheme: Can it work?

Highly doubt it since PayPal would be the one charging your Amex BCE and PayPal isn't coded as a gas station. Depending on how much a gallon of gas is in your area, you could be better off using your BCE directly. Where I live, gas is $3/gal so using a 2% cash back card would be 6 cents per gallon off. I have the Sallie Mae that basically gives me 15 cents off per gallon (5% cash back) and love it.
