A company that is hiring me says I need to apply for a corporate american express card and need to be approved. My score is really low 542 to be exact. Will I be declined for the corporate card?
Most likely yes

Any company I have worked for that requires a card, acquires the cprporate card themselves with me as an AU. That is the only way I would have it as I am not going to have their business expenses effecting my util.

Does the job offer hinge on getting approved for the corporate card?
I have a corporate AE and my score starting out was lower than yours. They made my limit lower than someone else would have, but they didn't deny me.
Yes. The hiring manager said it would be a "show stopper" if I couldn't get the card. I believe they are adding me on as an AU and the card isn't actually in my name. So I'm wondering since I just have low credit and have never been blacklisted or even had AMX before if I will be declined? I tried calling AMEX to inquire and they could not answer the question really. They said the employer would provide me with a link to apply for the card.
Kells - thanks for the info. How large is the company you work for? Also, you know they made your credit lower than other people you work with because of credit?

My understanding is that Business Cards do not even report utilization on your personal credit report - so why would it make any difference ??
This is where I have read about the Business Cards: http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/25391
We are the largest PBM in the country. The previous person who posted that there is no report on your credit is correct, so I don't understand why the score is an issue. I know because the company sent me something indicating my card was limited based on my low credit score. I think they are worried you're not going to go out and expense your card on time to pay the bill if you don't pay your own on time. My situation was a little different because I had already been with the company for several years before moving into a postion where I needed the card.
