Credit Cards

When applying for a new credit card do you think card companies solely rely on your credit report or do they also take your account history into account? assuming you already have an account with them.

Just something I always wondered.

If you have brownie cookies with them then your good. But of course, they still have to see how you behave with your other creditors as well. They will do all they can to predict your risk level by monitoring your credit behaviour.

Re: Credit Cards

All major CCC have an internal scoring system which combines your credit report (view to other bank's credit products and their history) with their internal history with you, and that includes checking and savings accounts, credit cards, mortgages and car loans. The more products you have with a particular bank / lender, the better perspective they have on you, and the easier subsequent approvals become.

If you mess up with such a lender however, and end up forcing them to charge off a significant sum, they can be ruthless in blacklisting people for a very long time, like, forever in some cases. There are reports of people with long-past charge offs that are no longer on their credit report, still being blacklisted by Chase and others for charge offs other banks have no idea about.

But if you pay your bills and don't get in any difficulties making those payments, all is good.
