Credit card Company Recommendations?

I have never had a credit card before and wanted to know who to go with that will:

Report monthly

Report to all 3 CBs

Start with a limit of 500 or higher

Every Pre- Approval I ever got was sliced up and trashed.

The first place I was going to try was my credit union.

TU-612 EQ-631 EX-if I had to guess maybe a 590 old collection from 5 years ago

2 recent collections that have recently been PFDed for and waiting for deletion

I will not do anything until those 2 recent baddies are out of my history.

I have a "plan" so let me know your suggestions.

Re: Credit card Company Recommendations?

If CU is a no go you will probably have to start out with CapOne. I had a mastercard from them in my first year of credit with no problems.

Re: Credit card Company Recommendations?

I suggest applying for a secured card from BOA or CITI and/or inquiring with a local credit union.  Other than these 2 suggestions, I don't think you have any other options at this point.  Good luck!

Re: Credit card Company Recommendations?

Capital one lets you see if you are preapproved, and that is only a soft inquiry.  Even with a preapproval, there is no chance you will get approved though.  I would still one to the credit union first.  Maybe you could print out your credit report, and have them look at your copy.  If they deny you, there is no inquiry.  If they approve you, they will obvioulsy have to pull an official copy, but at least you save an inquiry if there is a denial.

Best Buy rewards zone mastercard is another easy one to get approved for, but the limits are often very low (as low as 100.00)

Re: Credit card Company Recommendations?

You might also consider talking to USAA.  You can call them up and tell them your score and they'll probably advise you as to whether you'd likely be approved without actually doing a pull.

Another option, just to stay out of the clutches of Citi and CapOne, might be to go to a local bank (if there are any left) and talk to someone there.  That might be an advantage because you could probably talk to someone who could advise you without doing a credit pull.

Not that Citi is so bad.  I've been generally happy with them over the years.  Mostly.
