Credt Card Closing Date Question

My closing date on my credit card is in 12/15/2014.

I know that it's better keep my balances between 1-9% on my credit cards.

Let's say I have 5% balance on my credit card right now. My question is do I have to pay my 5% before 12/15/2014? OR should I wait till it closes with 5% and pay off my credit card balance AFTER 12/15/2014?

Pay after closing date to have balance reported and PIF before due date to avoid interest.
