DCU membership & credit card

Looking to hear from people who have Digital Federal Credit Union membership and a credit card with them:

1. I know they run a credit report when you apply for membership - what kind of scores are they looking for? What's their standard for inital membership regarding credit score?

2. If membership is granted and you apply for their credit card, which CB do they pull and what kind of things DON'T they want to see on your credit report???

If anyone has information on their membership requirements regarding the credit check (and what they might deny you for or what they like to see in that department), please let me know! Thanks much!

- Anything above 650 is ok with them

- The CL will depend on your income and your score and util. That's what I was told. YOu can get anything from $1000 and up

2. If membership is granted and you apply for their credit card, which CB do they pull and what kind of things DON'T they want to see on your credit report???

- Good thing with DCU is that they do one pull that they use for many products (excluding mortgage). I refinanced two cars and got a credit card with them with 1 EQ HP. They confirmed that they use the same pull for 30 days.

Re: DCU membership & credit card

1. DCU is big on Id verification when establishing membership. I am confident that they use other sources (chexsystems , EQ) to validate your id. For some, that's tripped them up without a disclosure of the report they are using. Mid 600's would probably be safe - no recent derog ie bks.

2. They pull EQ for membership and a separate for cc/loans. That report can be used for up to 30 days. Again, no recent derogs and can be inq sensitive

If you do not pass their ID verification- there appears to be no way around overturning a decision.

Their rates are good on cc's and auto loans. Rewards are meh- I'd pass on the Rewards Visa and stick with the Plat. Also, they do not offer a Siggy

Re: DCU membership & credit card

I just approved for membership last week. I should receive my membership materials this week.

I am not paying any services to check my credit reports. I just pulled my TU report last week for free. I did not see it on there.

I think they pull EQ.

My score was around 800 at the time I applied.

They used my utilites bills to verify my ID as well as DL and SSL.

Re: DCU membership & credit card

Thanks everybody so much for the info!

Well, I just wrapped this up in the bag. I was approved online for membership and a checking and savings account.

I had to put in my SSN (obviously). Then they had me answer three questions that only I would know (guess that's the verification that it's me??), gave driver's license number, too. All that.

Then submitted the application and came back:

"Congratulations! Your membership accounts have been established."

Folowed by my new "DCU Membership Number".

So that's awesome!!!!!

I'm not ready yet, but will app for their credit card like in March 2014. I'm definately in the garden until then. Getting the membership out of the way and establishing accounts with them now will help a whole lot later in 2014 when I app with them for a credit card!!!

So my last 3 "wish cards" shall be:

1. DCU (try in 3/2014

2. PenFed (try in 2014 sometime - membership established back in March 2013)

3. Walmart store card or Walmart Discover (pathetic I know, but been rejected 3 times so far so it's personal!!!)

Then...

Dump sub-prime cards next year (Credit One, First Premier, Applied Bank) and replace those with 3 unknown cards as of now.

Re: DCU membership & credit card

That's exactly how my membership app went. It has been mentioned here that some have had to forward documents and even then were not accepted. For those reasons, I have stated get the membership first.

I'm glad yours went through without a hitch.
