DW had scores around 650-660 in March when she applied for Discover More, approved for $5000. We pushed about $6000 through really quickly, and then let $4800 sit for a few months (cabinet purchase with the 0% for 12 months on the card). Been paying a couple hundred a month on it. Got a letter in the mail the other day sayind they've increased the credit limit to $6500. How about that? It just goes to show there must be a lot more to their methods than what we think (use it a bunch, always pay it off, small increases, etc etc). Anyway, just to give those hope, that you don't have to do things "perfectly" to be rewarded by the CC companies.
Thanks so much to this board, I've been able to make so much progress with mine and my DW's credit. :-)
Congratulations!! Nice Auto CLI
They want you to spend more money with it ...
Congrats! Just goes to show how experiences can differ.
Congrats on the auto CLI!
Discover will typically reward a profile of heavy usage and strong repayment history.

Agreed, Discover loves heavy use and reward accordingly. It really is a great card to have and shoving it in the stock drawer is no way to get an increase!
As always YMMV.
I've had my Discover about 7 years and for the last 2 years have used it for almost everything. Last year right at $30,000 and so far in 2011 just over $25,000. For about the first 5 years I would get regular auto CLI's that averaged about $1,000-$1,200.
But no CLI's for the last 2 years with the most use. It's hard to figure but it's no big deal. I consider the CL I have with them very generous but wonder why the CLI's seemed to dry up suddenly.

To be sure a CLI from Discover may not often result w/o asking, (particularly if the CL is already quite high) even for heavy users. Have had zero auto CLI from them in c.36 months. IMO, consider yourself among their preferred card holders, if those auto increases do roll in regularly.
However, a heavy usage pattern (with excellent repayment scores) seems to significantly increase the odds of an affirmative response from Discover...whereas Citi and Amex for eg., by contrast, seem notably more tolerant of relatively light usage w/o holding back on sizeable and routine card holder initiated CLIs, frequently sans HP.
Discover generally insists on being a 'go to' card as a prerequisite for generous increases, still, it may often require a card holder initiated request, (and not infrequently an HP) even for heavy users, as always, YMMV.
