i have noticed quoted frequently that platinum cards are every slow to grow.

I would think since no rewards are offered on platinum cards they would grow quicker?

Re: Dealing with old cards after credit improves

If your credit profile is strong enough, closing older cards shouldn't affect you at all.  I have some old rebuilders from Synchrony I'll be closing in the future (already did so with Walmart) and the world didn't explode when I submitted the closure online.  I don't buy that you have to keep absolutely everything you apply for open.  Especially since smaller amounts could be what's holding your profile down.
