Dell or Best Buy credit

Hey, I've been reading on these forums for a while now, and have never posted.

I need a new computer, but I had a BK discharged in Jan. of 2009.  Since then I have two credit cards, one with a $500 limit - $0 balance.  And another with a $750  limit.  Both cards have excellent payment history, but I got them in August of 2009.

WHat do you think my chances are to get approved for either Dell or Best buy credit.  I am not looking to buy a top of the line PC.  I'll be spending less than $800 on the new computer.

Thanks

Re: Dell or Best Buy credit

One more thing to add, I had re-affirmed my car loan in the BK.  And I have been paying it on time as I was before the BK.

Re: Dell or Best Buy credit

What are your current scores? With such a thin file, I think you are going to have problems getting credit at either place.

Starting Score: 627 EQ, 621 TU - 11/15/08
Current Score: 778 EQ, 781 TU, 778 EXP 07/20/12 Lender Pull
Goal Score: 800 EQ & TU

Re: Dell or Best Buy credit

I don't know if you will qualify for the Dell or Best buy accounts, but I'm sure Dell will give you the higher limit, I just recently picked up Target, Walmart and Dell accouts and this is what I got from them.

Target $400

Walmart $700

Dell $3000

Re: Dell or Best Buy credit

I think the best move here may be to just save up for the computer rather than finance it.

Re: Dell or Best Buy credit

Yeah, I would usually save up, but being that my PC is un-repairable, I need a PC and I'll be paying it off as soon as I get my tax return in February.  I just need to get the computer now.

Re: Dell or Best Buy credit

if i had to pick between the two i would say dell would be more likely to extend credit(in my experience) and another thing you can get a better deal thru the dell outlet . More bang for your buck . Getting Best buy to give you a large enough credit line to buy a computer is going to be the hard part.
