Denial Reason from Citibank

Hey guys, Thought this would be something you would want to know,. Last week I was approved by citi cards Macy's Home Depot and Zales so I figured I would try for a major Citi as well. The only reason I got was because I had a collection on my account over $250.00

This is the CA reporting the CO from 2002.

Good to know this info now.  Just have to wait for that to fall off in october 2008 as my report states and I will be approved for a card I am sure then.

Re: Denial Reason from Citibank

Sorry to hear that bott. Smiley Sad

I was just approved last month for a Citi AAdvantage with a CO greater than $250 showing on my reports (from 2001).  With the credit crunch and the economy bordering on the R-word, it's hard to predict how creditors will react to any given app.

You've gotten some nice approvals so keep up the good work.  Let those new TLs age, never be late, PIF if you can, and try again in 6 months.

Good luck!

One reason that they didn't list, that could also be true is the fact that you have 2 or 3 cards with them already. I know is GEMB's policy and HSBC, to decline applications for new accounts if you already have or applied for too many other accounts with them recently.

I think it's more likely that it's easier to get the co-branded cards (store + MC or Visa) than the straight bank card.

Hang in there, OP, after a good history on the current cards of a lot of usage and prompt payment, you should get on the bank card list!

Re: Denial Reason from Citibank

I dunno, those things are always iffy.

I got approved for Chase's basic platinum card but not the Amazon card, which even has a higher interest rate.

Before I got denied a zillion times with Citibank, have applied at least 4 times in the past 2 years and always got denied. Last app that I got approved on was an instant approval too. I think that if a regular bank instead of a store card is what you really wanted instead, you should have or should call now to see if they'll reconsider and maybe convert/open a new then close those.

Re: Denial Reason from Citibank

Also, I'd try calling them back now if that's the only reason they listed on the reasons why they denied you......

Re: Denial Reason from Citibank

Yup only reason. She did say the reason was because the over 250 collection was in past 2 months and I said uh no it was in 2002 and was verified 2 months ago because I disputed it. She said well once it comes off report fax us a recon letter and gave me a fax #.

If I can find that fax # now I will post for all to enjoy
