Department store apper's remorse

I was walking through Macy's on my way into the mall last week when some wild Lacoste shirts caught my eye. Before I knew what was happening, I was standing in front of the customer service counter waiting on a credit decision. I was like a deer caught in headlights. I knew I was supposed to be in the garden, but I just got swept away in the shopping moment. I have no intention of ever carrying a department store card since I carry a slim wallet, so it'll be SD'ed the moment I get it. Is there a way to use my account at the store without carrying the physical card?

Oh, I got 40% off the advertised price.

Re: Department store apper's remorse

Yes there is a way. Considering Macys is a larger store my guess is they will also be able to. I know with Sears and Best Buy, you can ask them to look up your account. Enter your social and hand them your drivers license and they should be able to pull up your account. I always get wary of this because it only takes one screw up and you would have another account opened vs locating your one.

Re: Department store apper's remorse

Great, thank you. I just realized what a dumb question I just asked since "store credit" was how most people used credit back in the day.

No question is stupid if you aren't sure. Don't sweat it... You never know who you have helped who just won't ask the question. Thank you!! Smiley Happy

So I'm guessing the sales lady was cute?

I have used my Macy's account without the card. They'll look it up for you with your driver's license.

As someone who worked in retail (Nordstrom), looking up a credit card is TOTALLY different than doing an app; I can't speak for Macy's specifically since I've never worked there but at least there, that would never happen.

Not a dumb question at all - many stores won't allow you to.

Re: Department store apper's remorse

Thanks for all the responses everyone. The "card" will get plenty of use then.

And in response to keithB, no. But she was a damn good salesperson. But then again, a white Lacoste polo and Nantucket red poly shorts kind of sell themselves. Am I right or am I right?
