App'ed for BOA over the weekend, got a "considering" messge, so based on advice I called in.
Here is a brief synopsus minus all the normal verification of ID, etc.
Credit Analyst: Yeah you were turned down because of poop payment history post BK.
Me: I havent missed a payment on anything.
C.A.- Oh yeah, you are right, sorry I was looking clear back in 1999.
Me- I have been perfect.
C.A.- You have not re-established.
Me- I have two credit cards and two secured loans. I have been perfect on all for almost two years. I have a DTI of less than 20%, counting my mortgage paymet which isnt reporting yet.
C.A.- Oh yeah, I see the $300 CC now.
Me- There are two.
C.A.- Yeah, I see them, there are only $300 limit.
Me- Yes, I know, and I have zero balance, they are junk cards, I would like to get with a mainstream bank and build a relationship with a good card issueier.
C.A. Yeah, I just cannot approve, not enough re-establishment.
Me- I have two CC's and two auto loans, all excellent payment history for two years.
C.A.- Yeah, the auto loans are secured and the CC's are only $300.
Me- Well can I just start out with a low limit?
C.A.- Sorry, I just cannot approve it, you also have alot of inquiries, you want to watch that as well.
END OF STORY. No big deal, I was able to get approved thru Discover and Capital one for $1000 each, that is plenty, I dont use them anyways, just want them for the reporting.
FYI I am 660 Experian FICO.
Sorry about that. It seems creditors don't really have strict policies in regard to approvals!
It all depends on the specialist you talk to. I was able to get approved with little history for their Student Platinum plus card ( now discontinued). I then converted to the cash rewards card. I'd call again.
what was your credit score on discover and how many inquiries??? --- build your relationship with discover, i'm sure it'll grow with you... and capital one is pretty good for
rebuilders but never for cli.... i think the cards you have is more than enough for now... let them age a bit and apply again....
Wow.....BofA can be dumb.....

How were they looking back to 1999? Was it from a previous BOA account? Stuff from 1999 should no longer be on any credit report (even closed accounts).
What number did you call? I would say call and try again. Try to speak with a senior analyst. IMO the senior or executive staff are miles above the regular CSR. Call the backdoor number and try again.
I called the backdoor number listed here. The lady wasnt nearly as nice as the Discover card lady, and didnt seem to know what she was talking about. I have no clue what she saw from 99, I have never had anything with BOA.
That is too bad. It sounds then like she just wasn't willing to work with you. I called last week and got a pretty nice lady that said she was a "senior analyst" She gave me a nice CLI, APR reduction and sent me two new cards with the chip in them. She sounded though like she was fighting for me and pretty much hooked me up. I wish I could have gotten her number. lol jk
So I would say maybe try it again with someone else. At the very least you could pump them for information.
if at first you dont succeed...
