Dillard's AMEX Approval

Against all advise and better judgment, I applied for a Dillard's card. I figured it would be a HP on TU where my score is currently 754. I thought I would get AMEX version. If I didn't get approved for AMEX, I would just cancel the card application and take the HP without a new account which would cost slightly a few points to fall off the FICO score. I applied and was approved for the AMEX with a CL of $1100!

I thought long and hard about it because I really wanted a card to use to fuel my designer jean fetish. I thought about Buckle as the last post suggests but didn't really see the value in it. I like the Dillard's AMEX not for rewards per say, but for the Elite status because of free shipping and gift wrapping. I also like the fact that all you have to do to get Elite status is spend $2000 on the card (doesn't have to be at Dillard's--just anywhere AMEX is accepted!!

I also looked into the travel benefits for spending 5000 on the card and this is what I found via my research. The website is very vague. The website states this:

Cardholders who spend $5,000 on their Dillard's Card in a calendar year will be eligible to select one of three rewards (Fly & Dine, Fly & Stay or Golf/Spa).

I googled and found a facebook post by Dillards last year when they rolled it out here are those details:

Qualifying Cardholders are able to select from the following:
a 'Dine and Fly' offer (Companion Airfare Voucher and $100 Restaurant.com gift card), a 'Fly and Stay' offer (Companion Airfare Voucher and $50 Hotel gift card), or a choice between a free round of golf or a free basic spa treatment. Full details of each offer will be provided upon meeting the spend requirement. We hope this helps.

I think this is awesome. That is basically a free flight for spending $5000 anywhere AMEX is accepted. Look at it this way. When I spend $5000 on my AMEX Green I can't get a free flight with only 5,000 MR points!! Love this card so far can't wait to get it in!!

Re: Dillard's AMEX Approval

I agree. I'm not sure how much value to place in a campanion voucher but hey you don't get rewards like that from any other GECRB cards.

Re: Dillard's AMEX Approval

I dont have any direct experience with Dillards, but these type of companion airfare vouchers require the first ticket to be a fullframe unrestricted ticket. It wouldn't be uncommon for that to be double what anaverage person might find with Internet booking on semi-restricted tickets. Thereby making the voucher of little value, dollar wise.

Unless you want/need the perks sometimes given to full fare ticket purchases, you can usually do better buying two tickets.

I was also told it's $2,000 and $5,000 Dillards spending, not general Amex spending.

I thought so too, but I called and they rep said no it's total spend on the card. If you have the AMEX version, you can spend it anywhere AMEX is accepted. That is what's great about the card!

Also the voucher might not be worth much, but for example if you get the resturant.com gift card for $100 that is still better than what you get with 5,000 MR points from AMEX Green --all you can get with that is a $50 gift card!
