I just signed in to check and I don't have the 2% offer, I haven't been using my Discover lately.

fltn, you don't have to carry a balance to get cash back. A billing cycle may have to pass before your account reflects what you have accumulated though.

If you carry a balance outside of a 0% deal the interest you pay negates the cash back earned on your purchases.

Discover has offers like this quite a bit, and they are generally targeted at certain accounts rather than being universally available. I haven't really been able to pinpoint a pattern as to who gets them and who dosen't, usually it seems to be a ymmv kind of thing.

You don't have to carry a balance to get cash back. I always PIF to prevent finance charges from canceling out my cash back earnings.
