Smiley Sad

Based on the graphics, it looks like gas will be 3Q. This overlaps with Freedom.

Re: Discover 5% Jan-March 2013

I have a Citi Forward.  Would it be better to use Discover for restaurants and movies during that quarter?  5% cashback is worth more than 5x TY points, right?

depending on how you use it, or what Citi products you have. If you can redeem 1/1 ratio for gift cards your going to use it won't make a much of a difference, but if your using it for cash back etc go with Discover. Technically Cash back is better because say you spent $1,500 (quartly max) and got $75 cash back, if you spend that $75 you could get more cash back on that, but the numbers are so minimal it'd be crazy to use it for that unless your running serious money through the accounts but Discover in this case only has a $1,500 quarterly cap, so most you'll make off that is less than $4.

 5% of 5% at best isn't much.  5% of 1500 (cap) = $75,  5% of 75 is $3.75

Re: Discover 5% Jan-March 2013

These bonuses are much more disppointing than Chase's in my opinion.  I don't think there is any quarter that would even give me a chance to hit $1,500 in spending - except maybe if I bought big purchases during the fourth quarter.

Maybe I will hold off on Discover...

In My Wallet: Amex BCP (12/12) $50,000, Chase Freedom (12/12) $16,500, Cap1 Quicksilver (6/12) $14,000, Barclaycard Rewards (5/13) $10,500, Citi Prestige (4/16) $30,000

Discover's online shopping portal to get cashback, ShopDiscover, definitely makes it worth having a Discover card. They consistently offer the highest cashback rate.
