I've been reading posts on here about Discover handing out these monster-size credit limit increases
or people riding the CLI train all the way to $20-34,000.
Can you guys (and gals) give me a little insight into how often I should be hitting up Discover for these increases?
I've had both of my Discover cards for about 4-6 years and I can't seem to figure out how these people are getting these Godzilla-size increases.
Does anybody know ANYTHING that can possibly give me a little insight?
Here's what I'm working with:
Discover More $8250 - Last increase 60 days ago
Discover IT $11,500 - Last increase 30 days ago.
Should I be hitting that LUV button again or something?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
_John
Hit the luv button every 31 days. It will tell you if they need to do a HP, you can cancel that.
OP, I can give you some details on how I have received CLI's. I have had this card for I believe 13 months now.
June 2015 - Approved for $4000
August 2015 - CLI to $5000
October 2015 - CLI to $6500
November 2015 - CLI to $7000
January 2016 - CLI to 9000
March 2016 - CLI to $10000
April 2016 - CLI to $14000
June 2016 - CLI to $20000
I am going to wait until next month to request another CLI.
I'm not sure there is a big secret to it, they have to like your profile. Discover was my first revolver April 2014 which they approved for 8k. I think the high starting limit was a big part of it for me. My first CLI was via chat maybe October 2014 to 12k. I had apped for Amex around that time but I don't think it was reporting yet. They liked being my only card and getting a large chunk of my spend. The gravy train was running throughout 2015 and I got several increases. I would hammer the luv button pretty regularly and had literally a stack of denials for 'not enough experience at current limit'. I probably received that letter 15 or 20 times. June last year I got in on the double cash back and they got a huge percentage of my spend from then until just recently.
So, ya.. hammer the button. Like all issuers they like getting a majority of your spend, they like clean files. No big secret to it.
Yeah yeah, good idea. Increase my CL so I can spend more and not harm my credit score...PLEASE!
This is what my experience has been with them so far since getting the card. I'm thinking my next request 7/18 should result in another increase and maybe if they're nice one on the anniversary of the card opening like some issuers do.

Wow, thanks for that input. I don't usually run a lot of monthly spend through those cards because they're some of my lowest
and those rotating categories drive me crazy. But you've made some serious headway with Discover. Awesome limits!
Thanks for the info. Good luck next montn!
Thanks!

I'll definitely switch my strategy up with them based on this new information!
