I've had the Discover More since last June at a measly $2000 limit (this is lower than both my Cap One cards). After reading the threads on here I decided to push the 'luv button' only to be told I was going to have a HP. I declined and signed out. I only asked for an increase of $2000. 2 days later a rep called my cell wanting to talk about the CLI. I told her I didn't go through with it because it would be a HP. She said it would.
Fast forward to this past Wednesday. I tried again online for an increase of $1000, thinking maybe they would do that without a HP. No such luck and again, I signed out of the site. Yesterday, a rep called me at work(!) to talk about the CLI and I told her I didn't want a HP. She said it would be a HP on TU. She was friendly, I wanted the CLI and so I agreed. She told me the computer said it would allow me to have a limit total of $4000 but she was going to personally bump it up to $5000 so maybe I could use it more.
It was a HP on TU but was worth it to me going from $2000 --->$5000. I just can't believe how friendly they are though!
Edited to add: I wouldn't mind it higher but am glad I, at least, doubled my limit. She said they were conservative compared to others but noted I had larger CLs on my CR and to call back in at least 6 months if I wanted more.
Nice tactical approach..... the way you stood your ground with the HP looks like it has worked like a charm ! Way to hold out for what you wanted !

Discover seems to be pretty firm about requiring HP. But as in your example, it's often worth it because the CSR have some flexibility in extending your CL once you do agree to the HP.

Did they tell you what bureau it would be a HP from beforehand?
