Discover CLIs

1 month from now is my 6 month point with Discover.  I know they do auto CLIs but that they usually arent that big, and if you ask for a large one they'll generally say its a HP.  I know they pull TU/EQ, which is great for me since I barely have any INQs on those: come April, it will be 1 w/i the past year on TU, and 2 w/i the past year on EQ.

So I'm thinking if Discover asked to do a HP, I would let them do it.  But what should I ask for?  My limits are in my siggy, but for all the mobile users out there, I'll post them here too.

Cap1 $750, AMEX Green NPSL, Discover IT $3000, Chase Amazon $1100, AMEX Hilton HHonors $4000, AMEX BCE $4000, Chase Southwest $6500

TU: 793 (6/13/17) | EQ: 787 (7/17/17) | EX: 788 (6/15/18)

Cap1 Quicksilver, $4,750 (4/2012); Discover IT, $40,000 (10/2012); Chase Amazon Rewards, $14,600 (10/2012); AMEX Hilton HHonors, $15,000 (11/2012); AMEX Blue Cash Everyday, $15,000 (01/2013); Barclaycard Arrival+, $10,000 (07/2013); Citi Home Depot $8,000 (06/2018)

Re: Discover CLIs

I would ask for max possible, no harm no foul, worse case scenario they will counter offer. If it were me, I'd ask them to match my highest limit of $6500 (from your siggy). Knowing Discover, they will not match, but no harm in atleast trying. Worse case scenario, they come back and say sorry we can only give you "x".

Re: Discover CLIs

What' the max CLI that discover gives? I have a $2,250 More card and have been with them for 4 years now, I hope to get at least a $2,750 CLI to get to get to $5,000 so I can apply for the Sapphire Preferred. Scores over 800 also.

Re: Discover CLIs

I have never heard of a set max for a CLI.  Each individual is looked at separately based on their individual whole credit picture. If your situation can support a huge CLI, they will give it. I really don't think there is a set cap, but others may chime in if they know otherwise.

If you're going to take a HP , I'd request $10k.

I haven't gotten an automated increase either, though I don't use the card at all. I reckon it's just hit and miss with them. My mom has one at 13000 from 1985 and I believe it has never gotten any automated increases, and she never asks for increases on her cards either.

Re: Discover CLIs

Add me to the list.. My limit is $1,200 and I have been with them a year as of yesterday. I called to inquire for a cli as the love button didn't work and they denied me.. They stated I would get a letter in the mail. I can't say I am surprised due to I don't use the card all too often. I have read on this board that you use it a lot to get their attention, but they are definitely hit or miss.

Re: Discover CLIs

I got denied for a CLI via SP also but declined the HP. I am waiting for my Cap1 new limit to update and i think i am going to call them request increase to 5000 (via HP of course) . You guys think that is not asking for the moon? My TU is at 712 (from Discover) with a 51 dollar paid collection from 2011 with only 4 INQ (last one back in October 2012).
