I am curious if anyone that travels to canada, preferably to toronto, alot and has the discover cards can chime in on the cards acceptance at merchants ? I called discover and they basically said the acceptance is "High" in Canada. I understand that at walmart and the chain stores it might be...but what about the gas stations there? Any input would be appreciated.

I KNOW we have several Canadian members here but not sure if they are Discover cardholders, but i've never had issues?
When I was in the Toronto area it was MC/Visa only. The only place I know that took anything else was Walmart. Even McDonald's only took Visa/MC. It is also strange when they pass the card reader into your car so you can insert the chip on the card. The only gas station I recall using was PetroCanada and once again only Visa/MC.
It isn't "strange" when they pass the card reader into your card, that is the way the rest of the world works. The US is incredibly technologically backwards when it comes to banking, mobile phones, etc., the rest of the world is way ahead.
Everywhere else in the world you have a PIN number for your credit card, like you do for a debit card. They're passing that reader to you so you can insert your chip card and type in your PIN.
However, the US banking system hasn't implemented chip and PIN yet because it's about 15 years behind every other country. People here think that mobile phone check deposits are revolutionary, the rest of the world's reaction to that is.. "YOU STILL USE CHECKS??????"

It doesn't have to have the Discover logo to be accepted it also works on the Diners Network Internationally.
